Does the Shoe Fit...Picking the Right EHR for You!

I found this article that could help you figure out what is important when choosing an EHR (Electronic Health Records) system. Whether you want to do it or not, it will be required by 2012. The good news is, you have time to make a good decision as well as get started before the CRAZINESS begins.

Check out this article and see what you think! Also, keep in mind that Cardinal has partnered up with one of the leading EHR companies out there--AllScripts. Ask me about what we have to offer--it may just be the right fit.

“Take 3” Steps To Fight The Flu

These actions will protect against the new H1N1 too!

Flu is a serious contagious disease. Each year in the United States, on average, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized and 36,000 people die from seasonal flu complications.

1. Take Time to get a Flu Vaccine
2. Take Everyday Preventive Actions
*Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing/sneezing
*Wash your hands with soap and water--frequently
*Stay home for at least 24 hours if you have flu-like symptoms
3. Take Flu Antiviral Drugs if your doctor recommends them.

CPT Coding for Influenza A+B

BIG NEWS...Quidel has obtained additional coding clarification in regards to their QuickVue Influenza A+B Test.
1. Separate Results On One Test Strip May Be Coded Separately
2. Use Modifier 59= Use modifier 59 when separate results are reported for different species or strains that are described by the same code.

If results for both Influenza A and Influenza B are ordered by practitioner
For influenza A use: 87804QW*
For influenza B use: 87804QW*, -59

*QW modifier is added to report use of CLIA-waived test system(s) for Medicare/Medicaid claims.

Quidel suggests that you should check with local payers regarding their specific coding and reimbursement requirements.
